DESIGN ELEMENT FIVE

COLLABORATIVE LEADERSHIP

AIM schools create opportunities for shared leadership and establish communication strategies that ensure participation of the larger community. This is accomplished by:

Creating a School Leadership Team that may include teachers, administrators, parents, community members, and students. The main purpose of this group is to enhance the learning and development of all students by:

  • Developing a shared vision.
  • Collecting and analyzing data about school climate, classroom practices, student achievement and behavior, and family/community involvement.
  • Developing a school improvement plan that integrates the school's improvement needs, state requirements, and the AIM process.
  • Overseeing the school improvement effort.
  • Monitoring progress against benchmarks.
  • Making connections to other schools in the district to articulate the curriculum and ease transitions across grade spans.
  • Communicating regularly with the central office, AIM staff, and others about their progress, unexpected problems, and needed assistance.

Creating district and school structures and processes to support teacher and student learning. Resources are allocated (dollars, time, staff) that are necessary to support the school improvement plan.
