INQUIRY TEAMS
Faculty Inquiry Teams are at the heart of AIM implementation. In this section
we offer the "What, Why and How" of Faculty Inquiry
Teams, as well as a list of AIM's requirements
for Faculty Inquiry Team meetings.

What are Faculty Inquiry Teams?
Faculty Inquiry Teams are ongoing professional development experiences in
which teachers focus on improving teaching and learning by engaging in inquiry
and reflection about practice.
Why implement Faculty Inquiry Teams?
Faculty Inquiry Teams deeply examine topics related to teaching and learning
in order to improve student achievement.
How do Faculty Inquiry Teams function?
Faculty Inquiry Teams:
- Examine student work
- Review a lesson plan
- Review a lesson previously taught
- Examine curriculum
- Align curriculum with standards
- Develop assessments
- Discuss professional readings
- Solve problems
- Celebrate accomplishments
- Conduct action research
- Utilize protocols to examine student and teacher work
Requirements for Faculty Inquiry Teams
Faculty Inquiry Teams:
- Meet at least once each week
- Use agendas
- Follow norms
- Rotate group roles
- Include everyone at meetings
- Focus on teaching and learning and identify a specific focus, learning
goals, and action plans for their work
- Keep learning logs to document their progress
- Share learnings with other inquiry teams
